Do you believe in ghosts?
With Halloween just around the corner, there’s no better time to indulge in a few scary stories.
If you know me, you’ll know that I’m a little obsessed with anything spooky. I love wandering through graveyards, visiting supposedly haunted places and watching way too many true crime documentaries.
If it creeps me out, I can’t get enough of it!
I’ve always enjoyed reading about other people’s unexplainable and paranormal experiences, but I don’t often share my own.
So in the spirit of Halloween, I decided to do just that!
My very first experience happened when I was around six years old, and it honestly wasn’t too exciting. I was in my parents room, standing in front of their full length mirror. All of a sudden I felt a sharp finger poke me in the back, but when I turned around to face the culprit I was greeted with an empty room.
I fled, and felt uneasy being alone in that room for a long time afterwards.
That experience was an interesting brush with the paranormal, but certainly nothing to write home about.
Now, people will usually indulge me when I talk about seeing ghosts, but this next story always garners a lot of skepticism. Nevertheless, I thought I would share it here!
I was around the same age, and was back in my parents room. This time I was fast asleep in their bed, wearing my favourite set of black floral pyjamas.
Suddenly I found myself floating high above the clouds, staring back towards the ground. I hovered there for a while, admiring the view below. After a few minutes I began descending downwards through the clouds until I was above my little English village, looking over the treetops and houses. I continued my descent until I was above my street, then my own house. As I sank through the roof, I saw myself laying in my parents bed fast asleep – black floral pyjamas and all!
I hovered above my body, idly reflecting on how odd it was to see myself sleeping. Suddenly I felt a huge jolt as I slammed down into my body, with the force of the impact waking me up.
It’s easy to dismiss this experience as nothing but a dream, but it felt so real. Over two decades later I can still recall each detail just as vividly as if it had happened to me yesterday.
Do you believe in out-of-body experiences? I don’t know what I think, but I feel sure that something unusual happened that night.
My last experience is easily the most spooky, as well as being the most recent.
A few years ago Elliott and I were visiting a dusty little town named Tottori, located in rural Japan.
On our second night there I awoke to the feeling of being shaken, and looked over to see a figure sitting at the end of the bed. It was facing away from me and shaking violently, almost as though it was suffering an epileptic fit.
The figure was small and slim with a lot of wild black hair, and it was impossible to tell whether it was male or female. Although it didn’t look a thing like Elliott, I was convinced that it must be him. I sat up straight and said, ‘Are you okay?’
As I did that, the figure disappeared. It didn’t fade away slowly – it just wasn’t there anymore. Then I felt Elliott roll over next to me and sleepily say, ‘Huh?’
Needless to say, it took me a very long time to fall back to sleep.
I still don’t know what I saw that night. Was it a dream? My imagination? Or did I encounter something paranormal in the sleepy little town of Tottori?
Much to my disappointment, I haven’t had any further spooky experiences. But with Halloween fast approaching, I’m keeping my fingers crossed.
Have you ever experienced something creepy or unexplainable? I’d love to hear about it!
