It’s officially the first day of autumn, and I couldn’t be more excited.
Of course, it goes without saying that I’ve been celebrating since the end of August. But now I can talk about fallen leaves and cosy sweaters without people looking at me like I’m crazy. It’s the little things!
I didn’t get around to writing one of these posts last year because honestly, I was not particularly organised. Very unlike me!
This year, things are different. I’ve scheduled posts all the way through until December, and I’m feeling pretty good about myself. I decided to kick things off with a post dedicated to the wonderful season of autumn – trust me, I have a lot of opinions on this topic.
So, let’s get straight into it!
What are you most excited for this autumn?
You mean, besides the entire season?
I’d have to go with Halloween, as I love everything about it – the spooky stories, the horror movies, the gross-looking candy. Plus, my boyfriend and I have chosen a pretty epic couple’s costume that I’m so excited to put together!
I’m also looking forward to leafy walks in the woods, creating delicious autumn meals and taking in the fireworks on Guy Fawkes’s Night.
Basically, anything on my autumn bucket list (which is coming soon!)
What’s your favourite way to spend a rainy day?
There’s nothing better than getting cosy on the sofa with a good book, a blanket and a mug of tea. I’m also open to a TV show or movie with my boyfriend, too!
Rain always makes me feel extra productive, so I also like to give my apartment a good clean and organise any cupboards and drawers that are looking a little messy.
It’s also the perfect opportunity to get creative – inventing a new recipe or writing a blog post while the rain beats down outside is my idea of heaven.
What’s your most fond autumn memory?
Last year my boyfriend and I visited a pumpkin patch for the first time, and I honestly don’t know why we didn’t do it sooner.
It was so much fun to pick out the perfect Halloween pumpkin together, and to see exactly how they grow. We also discovered a treasure trove of kabocha squash at insanely cheap prices, so it was a pretty successful day all-round.
Pumpkin-picking at Hewitt’s Farm is firmly cemented in my mind as my favourite autumn memory. So far, anyway!
What’s your favourite autumn scent?
There are so many to choose from – a sprinkle of cinnamon added to my usual baking recipes, the smell of bonfire on a misty evening and the unmistakable aroma of rain on fallen leaves. I love them all!
I’ve also got my eye on a very autumnal perfume: Jo Malone’s Blackberry and Bay. It’s a bit of a splurge so I haven’t quite committed yet, but I’m completely in love with this subtle yet firmly autumnal scent.
What’s your favourite autumn meal?
Without a doubt, creamy pumpkin pasta. But not just any pumpkin pasta – specifically, the most delicious dish ever from a little chain restaurant named Capricciosa.
Sadly, it’s only available in Japan. *sobs*
What’s your favourite autumn drink?
I picked up the most delicious gingerbread tea over the summer, and the weather is finally cold enough to really appreciate a warm drink. I’ve also managed to perfect my homemade pumpkin spice latte recipe, so there’s no shortage of autumnal drinks at my apartment this season.
What’s your favourite autumn song?
Definitely ‘Into the Unknown‘ by The Blasting Company.
It’s the theme to Over The Garden Wall, which is the most autumnal show known to man. I already know it’s going to be playing on repeat in my apartment until at least December.
“How the gentle wind beckons through the leaves, as autumn colours fall.”
What’s your favourite autumn movie?
Honestly, I don’t really have a specific film that I watch during autumn. When October rolls around my boyfriend and I love watching scary movies in preparation for Halloween, but they don’t exactly evoke all the warm fuzzies!
I’d have to say any of the Harry Potter films. They’re not specifically autumnal, but they never fail to make me feel cosy and happy. Imagine getting to ride the Hogwarts Express and experience life as a student at this magical school?
Plus, I’ve always wanted to be a witch.
Which TV shows are you looking forward to this autumn?
I’ve been eagerly anticipating Netflix’s revamp of Sabrina since it was announced earlier this year. It looks dark, spooky and completely perfect for getting in the Halloween mood.
Of course, I’ll be rewatching Over The Garden Wall. If you haven’t seen it, you need to make it a priority. It’s full of autumn leaves, creepy vibes and the best soundtrack (which is currently on repeat in my apartment, as you may have realised from my earlier answer!)
What’s your favourite autumn colour?
It’s a little cliché, but I can’t get enough of burnt orange and mustard yellow. These two colours are the epitome of autumn, along with deep berries and rich browns.
So, pretty much my entire wardrobe at the moment!
What’s your favourite autumn fashion trend?
You can’t go wrong with a cosy jumper and a good pair of boots.
When it comes to specific trends, however, I’m obsessed with yellow-checked everything. Hats, pinafores, trousers – I can’t get enough. It’s so cute!
I’ve also been loving denim jackets with faux sheepskin lining, and I’ve got my eye on a pair of over-the-knee boots. I always let myself go a little crazy when it comes to shopping during the colder months, as I don’t tend to buy many summer clothes.
Now, when’s the next ASOS sale?
What’s something you’ve always wanted to do during autumn?
I’m dying to spend October in Salem, Massachusetts. It was just made for this time of year! The streets are lined with orange and red trees, leaves cover the sidewalks and the residents seem to go all-out when it comes to Halloween decorations.
Plus, it was the site of the Salem Witch Trials. I can’t think of a more interesting and immersive way to learn about this historical event than visiting the town where it actually took place.
I’ve promised myself that I’ll go next year, even if it’s just for a week. That would officially be the most magical autumn ever!
Now that I’ve shared my thoughts on my favourite season, I’d love to hear what you think!
