A Snowy Week

You guys know how much I love to write about my vegan diet and share my tips for living a healthy lifestyle. But today I felt like writing more of a personal update, to give you a little peek into my life.

Pour yourself a mug of herbal tea and settle in – I’m going to share my week with you.

First, in typically British fashion: the weather.

It has snowed every day this week.

When I drew back the curtains on Wednesday morning I was greeted with a blanket of snow. My downstairs neighbours must have been awakened by the sound of someone jumping up and down with excitement!

I was lucky enough to be working from home that day, so I took the opportunity to go for an early-morning walk and snap some photographs.

The pink cherry blossoms on this tree were made even prettier by a dusting of snow. I’m going to miss sakura season in Japan this year, but these little buds more than made up for it.

It was too snowy to get to the office on Friday, so I spent the day working from home. Once I’d completed my to-do list, Elliott and I decided to venture out for a walk together. It was the perfect way to spend a wintery afternoon, and Fuji-chan completely agrees.

His snowy little face just melts my heart!

Another big event this week: I went back to work!

Blogging is just a hobby of mine, and I don’t make any money from it. Instead I work full-time for a charity in London, managing their social media and website. Our office has been closed since the beginning of November and underwent some major renovations. We were instructed to work from home for three months, and I can’t pretend it wasn’t amazing. But all good things come to an end and on Monday our office reopened. I’ve had to get used to 6am alarms and packing a lunch all over again – still, it’s nice to be back with my co-workers!

I’ve had a huge burst of creative energy recently, and all I want to do is write. I’ve been working extra hard on my blog, scheduling posts in advance and planning out ideas. It’s so much fun and really helps me to relax and clear my mind. You’ll be seeing a lot more from me in the near future.

I’ve also decided that I want to start freelancing in order to make a little extra money, so I’ve been busy pitching articles and putting together a writing portfolio. I’m feeling productive and inspired, which is always a good thing.

At the start of this year I set myself some goals. One of my biggest (and scariest) ambitions for 2018 is to start driving again!

I hold a full driver’s licence back in New Zealand, but unfortunately I’m not allowed to use it in the UK after a year. I’ve been living in London for over five years now, so I decided that it’s time to start becoming a little more independent.

My first task was to apply for my provisional license, which I did last month. Now it’s time to tackle the theory test – gulp.

I’ve completely forgotten everything I learned when I first took the test all those years ago. So every day this week, I’ve put aside some time to study. I’m not going to lie – it’s pretty boring! But I’m slowly becoming more confident with the road rules, and they really aren’t so different from New Zealand. My test is booked for later this month, and I feel silly admitting that I’m a little nervous! I know I’ll feel so accomplished once I pass, so I’m going to ignore the butterflies in my stomach and just go for it.

If you currently drive in the UK, watch out – I’ll be on the road later this year!

I’m a major homebody, and my living environment is incredibly important to me. I’m never happier than when my apartment is clean and beautiful, with fresh flowers and flourishing plants.

Our bedroom has been looking a little tired lately, so I decided to give it a refresh. Elliott and I took a trip to IKEA over the weekend where we looked at new bedside tables, and I also ordered a laundry basket. After spending some time reorganising furniture, decluttering and adding a few plants, it’s already looking fresh and new. I’ve also got my eye on a beautiful chest of drawers along with a set of bedsheets and some art for the walls. That can be next month’s project!

So there you have it – a week in my life! I hope you enjoyed this little peek into my mind – it may seem as though my life revolves around veganism and food, but there’s actually a lot more going on behind the scenes. I’m really happy with how the last seven days have gone – it feels good to be actively working towards my goals, while still finding time to relax and enjoy the snow.

What have you been up to this week?
