There’s something very comforting about watching a film that you’ve seen countless times before, particularly during the Christmas season.
The temperatures also start to drop off during December, so what better time to put up lots of twinkling lights and settle down to watch a cosy and heartwarming Christmas movie?
If you’re in need of some festive film inspiration this year, I’ve got you covered.
Mickey’s Christmas Carol

An adorable retelling of the classic Charles Dickens tale, Mickey’s Christmas Carol always reminds me of what’s really important at this time of year.
I love, love, love vintage Disney cartoons. They’re so wholesome and well-made, and give a sense of nostalgia that I particularly appreciate around Christmas time.
Home Alone

Sweet little Kevin McAllister has been left home alone at Christmas. At first he’s thrilled about his newfound freedom, but with the Wet Bandits snooping around he starts to miss his family more than he ever thought possible.
Home Alone is one of those classic films that you just have to watch at Christmas. It has beautifully decorated houses, relatable family dynamics and a lot of laughs – what more could you want?
Home Alone 2

We’re just going to pretend that there have only ever been two Home Alone movies. Okay?
My husband doesn’t love Home Alone 2 as much as the first, but I think it holds its own. I love watching Kevin living it up in a fancy hotel suite in New York, and I honestly think the huge credit card bill serves his parents right.
A Charlie Brown Christmas

You can’t go wrong with a Charlie Brown movie to fit the holiday season.
This month it’s A Charlie Brown Christmas, originally released in 1965. After confessing that he feels depressed around the holidays, Charlie Brown is tasked with directing the annual Christmas play.
I love the jazz soundtrack, the classic plot and of course Snoopy’s adorable antics. “Merry Christmas, Charlie Brown!“
Elf

One of my all-time favourite Christmas movies, Elf is a staple in our household every December.
I just love Buddy’s childlike sense of wonder and excitement about Christmas, and how he brings out that feeling in everyone around him. He has so much love to give, and no matter how many times I’ve seen this film I never fail to both laugh and cry.
Jingle All The Way

I’d never seen Jingle All The Way until I met my husband, but I can see why he loves it so much.
Howard is a workaholic who had one job this Christmas – pick up the coveted and extremely in-demand Turbo Man toy for his son. Of course he forgets until Christmas Eve, and so begins a mad dash to find one in time against the odds.
This film always warms my heart, as it shows the love between a father and his son. It should be a required viewing for all households during December!
I’d love to know – which Christmas films do you watch every year?
