September has finally arrived, and not a moment too soon.
The leaves are starting to turn brown, pumpkins are appearing in the supermarket and there’s a definite chill in the air. I’ve been busy cleaning out my kitchen cupboards, reorganising my closet and planning out my autumn bucket list ready for my favourite season.
My local thrift stores have started to pack away their summer clothes, replacing them with racks of cosy sweaters and warm coats. It’s the perfect time to update my wardrobe, so I’ve been keeping an eye out for unique vintage pieces that can be worn with items I already own.
I got really lucky lately, so I wanted to show you what I found. I’m so excited for the colder weather to arrive!
Vintage brown leather jacket: £20.00

How amazing is this vintage, 100% leather jacket?
I’m been looking for something just like it for the longest time, and I couldn’t believe my eyes when I spotted the jacket of my dreams just sitting on the rack in my favourite thrift store. I’m so glad I held out and didn’t settle for a fast fashion version – vintage leather just has that perfectly worn-in feel.
£20 is a lot for me to spend at the thrift store, but it’s an absolute steal for this piece. It might be my favourite thrift find of the season!
Vintage wool plaid skirt: £6.00

I scour the racks for vintage skirts at the thrift store every time I visit, and I hit the jackpot recently when I found the brown plaid skirt of my dreams.
It’s perfectly autumnal, true vintage 90s and made from 100% lambswool. If I didn’t know better, I’d think it had jumped straight out of my Pinterest boards!
This skirt is going to be a staple in my wardrobe during the colder seasons. Can you imagine how cute this would be to wear to the library or a museum visit during October? I’m so excited.
Vintage squirrel jumper: £4.00

This jumper caught my eye as soon as I walked into the store, and for good reason.
It reminds me of the sweet little squirrel that lives in the huge tree at the end of my garden. He’s always busy running to and fro at this time of year, so hopefully I’ll absorb some of his productivity when I wear this cosy sweater.
I had to do a little research on the tag, and was so pleased when my suspicions were confirmed – it’s true vintage and somehow doesn’t have a single stain!
Vintage silk scarf: £2.00

I’ve been wanting a genuine vintage silk scarf for a while now, so it was a huge treat to find three beautiful 100% silk scarves hanging together in my trusty local thrift store.
It was hard to choose, but the beautiful bookshelf pattern sold this one to me. I also loved the colours – the deep green and red will look so lovely paired with my brown leather jacket or tied to the side of my black Gucci bag.
For just a couple of pounds, I’m very pleased with this little find!
I’ve been moving away from fast fashion this year and have been shopping almost exclusively at the thrift store, looking out for vintage items in particular. This has raised my standards when it comes to fabrics and general craftsmanship – I prefer leather, wool and silk over polyester, and think long and hard these days about whether my purchases will last.
I’m so excited to wear my new purchases throughout the autumn months and beyond. What have you thrifted lately?
