October is here, and that can only mean one thing.
It’s pumpkin-picking season!
So come along with my husband and I as we visit Hewitt’s Farm to pick out our Halloween carving pumpkins.
We secured a wheelbarrow as soon as we arrived and began the walk to our favourite hidden pumpkin patch, located right at the back of the farm. There are several pumpkin fields at Hewitt’s Farm, and most people gravitate to the ones closest to the entrance.
Only the most seasoned pumpkin-pickers know about our secret spot!
Despite the owner’s warnings of a bad crop, we quickly found ourselves surrounded by hundreds of pumpkins. Many were buried and tangled in the brambles, but after a little digging we were able to uncover some perfectly pumpkin-shaped treasures.

The patch was completely overgrown, much more than I’d even seen it before. We joked that it looked haunted – the perfect backdrop for the spookiest time of the year.

It took some time and effort to navigate the brambles and select the perfect specimens, but eventually we managed to amass a pile of pumpkins that I couldn’t wait to get home.
As you can see, we were very proud of this particular pumpkin.

We picked a little more than usual this year, as it’s the first time we’ve ever had our own house to decorate. We were still in the process of moving last October, so now that we’re more settled it’s a great opportunity to show our neighbourhood how truly Halloween-obsessed we are.
Our kitchen currently looks like a mini pumpkin patch with freshly-washed pumpkins lining the floor. We plan to decorate this weekend, so they’ll soon have pride of place on our front porch.
I’m so glad you could come along on our annual pumpkin-picking trip to Hewitt’s Farm. I’m already looking forward to the next one!
