I look forward to pumpkin picking every time October rolls around.
It’s become a tradition for my husband and I to head to Hewitt’s Farm for our Halloween pumpkins, and we always make sure to wear our favourite cosy jumpers for the occasion.
The pumpkin crop was excellent this year, so it was difficult to choose just one each.

We always turn it into a little competition to see who can find the best pumpkin, and spoiler: it’s me.
We had the pumpkin patch all to ourselves, so we had fun running back and forth with the squeakiest wheelbarrow in existence. Seriously, this thing sounded like it was about to fall apart!

After a lot of thought, we each found our perfect pumpkin. As you can see, I was very proud of mine.

We also found huge boxes of colourful squash stacked outside the tiny farm store. I guess that heatwave over the summer produced a great crop!
Just look at those vibrant colours. They remind me of autumn leaves, and it makes me so happy.

Of course I wanted to take them all home with me, but I managed to resist.
I always make sure to pick up a few kabocha squash each time I visit the farm, along with some extra pumpkins to decorate our home. I was particularly intrigued by the red onion squash, but decided to leave it until my next visit.

We came away laden with pumpkins and squash, and my kitchen countertops are currently cluttered with seasonal produce. It truly is the most wonderful time of the year!
The day ended with a trip to a wood burner store, and it’s safe to say I’m feeling extremely autumnal and cosy right now.
As Anne of Green Gables so famously once said: ‘I’m so glad I live in a world where there are Octobers.’
